Let’s face it, we all love samples. They’re free, they’re fun and you get to learn about a new product. Does that about sum it up? Almost but here are a few more tidbits about why product sampling is awesome – for you and your consumer:
Children love samples and if it’s food – their parents appreciate you too! A nice snack to nosh on while mom/dad reevaluates their grocery list or comparison shops is likely a welcomed gesture. Plus, if there’s swag a kid will spot it from a department away! Stickers, buttons or a colorful display may attract the attention of a kid before their parent.
All of the specialty products we represent are Certified Organic too so if food items being demonstrated wins a kid over then it will likely make its way into the grocery cart…. The less barriers to purchase, the better!
A brand ambassador puts a face, a smile and personal engagement to your brand.
There are so many competitors on the specialty products shelf these days your consumer can be overwhelmed by the messages, ads and labels. More and more, consumers are looking to their peers for product reviews instead of in-store personnel or ads. Modern day shoppers are smart and they want real information from a real and educated person –
who’s just like them. This is why your consumer trusts online reviews, social media (i.e. companies who respond to their consumers quickly/effectively through these platforms) and Brand Ambassadors!!
A personal and emotional connection is so important to become memorable in this ever-changing market.

Everyone likes spending his or her dollars smarter. Whether it’s trying out a natural and toxic free face cream (MyChelle!), swapping out a daily indulgence like a high-calorie soda for a refreshingly delicious probiotic drink (KeVita!) or stocking up a new gluten-free and vegan cereal that the whole family can enjoy (Giddy Up & Go Granola!) replacing the old with the new is way to upgrade our grocery items.
Demos are also a great way to introduce new product lines to shoppers who are both familiar, or those who were previously unfamiliar, with your product.
Demos can also be a great tool for leveraging more shelf space, or other merchandising initiatives… but we’ll talk more about that in a future post 🙂
Shoppers are in the store to make purchases. And they will either buy your product, or another one. Being present there to introduce your product to them, definitely gives you the advantage.
Year after year, clients have proved that sales spike dramatically during a demo and that spike can last for weeks after a demo program ends.
Demos = More Sales. Period.
Wait, not period… To develop on the last point, demos also produce more awareness for your brand. This is not only true for your consumers, but also the store personnel. The more impressions you make with the store employees the more likely they are to help a guest find your product on the shelf, or even recommend your product.
Plus, assuming you decorate your table with branded materials, you leave that image for all guests who see your table during the demo, even if they don’t stop to sample.
As you can see demos are so much fun for us, for you and for your consumer!
You can retain some valuable feedback from demo reports as well as competitor photos from each demo.
Post great photos on your website and social media of happy customers with your product! Use report data you start getting trending feedback to help you make more informed decisions about what your customers want and how to be even more successful in your next demo program!
